Born in 1995 in Vienna, bass Michael Nagl received his musical training as a member of the Mozart Knabenchor Wien, under the leadership of Peter Lang. In the summer of 2016, Michael graduated from the Universität für Musik und darstellender Kunst, in the class of Professor Karlheinz Hanser.

Michaels stage debut was in march 2014 as 'Don Alfonso' /"Cosi fan tutte" at the Schloßtheater Schönbrunn. In May 2014 he performed in Hans Krása’s opera for children "Brundibár" within the context of the 'Day against Violence and Racism' organized by the Austrian Parliament. During his studies, Michael Nagl’s operatic roles he performed at the Schloßtheater Schönbrunn included e.g. 'Antonio' /"Le nozze di Figaro", 'Masetto' and 'Leporello' /"Don Giovanni", 'Simone' /"Gianni Schicchi" and 'Frank' /"Die Fledermaus".
In the summer of 2014, he was awarded Best Young Singer at the '2nd International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition', in 2015 he won the 'Gottlob Frick Medal'.

Further operatic engagements include '2nd Geharnischter' /"The Magic Flute" and 'Leporello' at the Stadttheater Baden. Michael was a member of the Opera Stuttgart Opera Studio from 2016 – 2018 including roles like 'Masetto', 'Wagner' /"Faust", 'Saretzki' /"Eugen Onegin", 'Narumov' /"The Queen of Spades", '1. Soldat' /"Salome" and "Il Conte di Ceprano' /"Rigoletto". In the season 2017/18 Michael Nagl gave his debut at the Semperoper Dresden. Concert engagements in this season included Bach’s "Weihnachtsoratorium" at the Goldener Saal of the Musikverein Wien.


Since 2018 the artist is a principal of the Staatstheater Stuttgart, where he has been working with conducters like Cornelius Meister, Sylvain Cambreling, Lorenzo Viotti, Lothar Koenigs and directors like Jossie Wieler, Peter Konwitschny and Frank Castorf.

In June 2019 the artist had a huge success with his outstanding portray as 'Leporello' in the much-discussed new production of "Don Giovanni" of Marie-Eve Signeyrole (Christian Curnyn/Andreas Spering) at the Opéra National de Rhin Strasbourg.

The season 2019/20 includes his role-debut as 'Figaro' in a new production of "Le nozze di Figaro" (Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla; Christiane Pohle) and 'Il frate' /"Don Carlo" in a new production of Lotte de Beer (Cornelius Meister), both at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. He will also sing 'Polydor' and 'Père de famille' in Berlioz‘ "L’enfance du Christ" with the Gürzenich Orchester Köln under the baton of  Francois-Xavier Roth at the Dome of Cologne.
