Maria van Hoof was born in Kyiv in 2003.

In 2010, she began her musical studies in violin at the Kyiv Academy of Arts, followed by piano the next year. After performing as a violinist with the Academy Orchestra at the National Philharmonic Hall in 2019, she graduated with honors from the Kyiv Academy of Arts in 2020.

Since the beginning of her singing career, the mezzo-soprano has successfully participated in several singing competitions: in 2018, she received an award as a choral soloist at the Ukrainian Choir Competition ‚Bortnyansky‘.
That same year, she sang the title role in the Ukrainian premiere of Menotti’s chamber opera „Martin’s Lie“ at the Opera Studio of the Kyiv Conservatory.

From 2021, Maria van Hoof studied at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts (HMTM) in the bachelor’s program in the singing classes of Prof. Christiane Iven and Prof. Sabine Lahm.
As part of the university series ‘Musiktheater im Reaktor’, Maria van Hoof sang the role of Ciesca in „Gianni Schicchi“ (2023), the title role of Dido in „Dido++ & Aeneas++“ (2024), and Donna Elvira in „Don Giovanni“ (2025). She also appeared as Marcellina in „The Marriage of Figaro“ as part of the university project ‚Opernbus‘.
After successfully completing her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance in July 2025, Maria van Hoof has been continuing her vocal studies at HMTM in the Master’s program under Prof. Talia Or since October 2025.

Since April 2025, she has been a scholarship recipient of the Live Music Now Munich association, which supports young, talented musicians at the beginning of their careers.

Maria van Hoof made her debut at the Staatstheater Kassel in July 2024 as part of the festival ‚Davon geht die Welt_____unter‘, where she sang the lead role in Nik Bohneberger’s opera „Nacht“.

From the 2026/27 season, she will be a member of the International Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
