The young Berlin mezzo-soprano Johanna Thomsen received piano lessons from an early age and was a singer in the church choir of the Gethsemane Church. She is currently studying for her master’s degree with Prof. Manuela Uhl at the Lübeck University of Music. During her bachelor’s degree (2020-2024) she sang the 3rd Lady/“The Magic Flute“, Zenobia/“Radamisto“ and the Mother/“Mavra“. Her annual song concerts at the Lübeck Brahms Festival were very well received. Master classes with Brigitte Fassbaender, Edda Moser and Christoph Prégardien complemented her training.

Her concert repertoire includes the alto parts of the „Mass in B minor“ and the „St. Matthew Passion“, which she performed under the direction of Ulrich Windfuhr in Hamburg (2023/2024). She was then entrusted with Mahler’s „Kindertotenlieder“ at the Hamburg University of Music (2023) in a chamber ensemble. In the Lübeck Music and Congress Hall she could be heard in Schönberg’s „Pierrot Lunaire“ (2023) and most recently with the alto part of „Elias“ by Mendelssohn (2024).

She is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association Hamburg and winner of this year’s Fritz Wunderlich Sponsorship Prize 2024.

Since this 2024/25 season she has been part of the international opera studio of the Cologne Opera and can be seen in the following roles: Cat/“Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten“, 3rd Lady/“The Magic Flute“, Mercedes/“Carmen“, Sammy/“Superheldennormalos“ and in the ensemble from „La Passion de Simone“.
